Gili Meno is the smallest and sleepiest of the three islands, a place where the loudest sound is often the sea itself. Exploring it on horseback suits that pace exactly, turning a simple hour into one of the most relaxing things you can do in the Gilis.
You are collected from your accommodation and taken to the stables, where the team will ask about your riding background and pair you with a horse to match. Even if you have never sat on a horse before, that is no obstacle: the animals are accustomed to beginners, the pace is calm, and a handler stays with you to guide the horse and offer pointers as you go. Experienced riders can take the reins themselves and enjoy a more independent ride.
The route makes the most of the island’s size. Long stretches of empty white beach let you ride at the edge of the water, with the shallow lagoon glowing pale green beside you and the profile of Gili Trawangan or Gili Air on the horizon depending on which way you face. Inland paths wind between coconut palms, past small gardens and the flat, reflective ground near the island’s salt lake, where birdlife is often easy to spot in the early morning and late afternoon.

Because Meno sees far fewer visitors than its neighbours, the beaches stay quiet even in high season, which means you rarely have to weave around sunbathers or boats. Sunset rides are particularly special here: the western shore looks straight out toward the open water, the sky turns through orange and pink, and there is almost nobody around to share it with. Morning rides offer cooler air and glassy water.
This is a lovely choice for couples, honeymooners, families and solo travellers who want something gentle and memorable rather than adrenaline-fuelled. It also photographs beautifully, and your guide will happily stop to take pictures for you wherever the light is best. Long trousers or leggings and closed shoes make the ride more comfortable, and a hat, water and sunscreen are always worth carrying.
Allow around an hour in the saddle plus a few minutes at either end. Sunset times are the first to go during busy months, so reserve early if you have a specific slot in mind and we will hold it for you.
